Treasure Clutcher

The Zuo Commentary on the Spring and Autumn Annals says: "When people abandon the constant, monsters arise."

A rich merchant once hid his life's treasures beneath a tree to escape the chaos of war. When peace first returned and he went back to find them, the treasures had already turned into a demon.

Unable to bear leaving, the merchant was finally killed by the demon, his corpse still clutching the treasure tight. Over months and years, man and treasure fused flesh to bone and became one. Those who later heard of this monster born of abandoning the constant named it "Treasure Clutcher".
