Petition Scrolls

Also known as petition texts or memorials, the general name for the documents used in all kinds of rites, such as worshipping gods and Buddhas or reporting to the ancestors. They must be written in a strict form and format, stating the deity's palace and sacred title, and the supplicant's name, birth date, residence and specific request, and are then burned in the hope that they will reach the Heavenly Court.
