Clam

Along the shore dwell clams of two kinds: those bearing patterned markings on their backs are called Flower Clams by the local folk, while those without markings are known as Sand Clams. The Book of Rites, in its chapter "Monthly Ordinances," records: "In the last month of autumn, birds dive into the great waters and become clams."
